our story

In the middle of the winter of 2022, three passionate local valley guys with a combined 70 years of diverse business and real estate experience were faced with a choice:

Keep working solo on the things they knew best in their own respective fields, or combine their shared experiences and co-create something that was bigger than themselves and their past. They gladly jumped all in to make a difference for their community.

Being who they are, the second choice was easy to make but certainly not as easy to accomplish!

After 18 months, COG (Community Oriented Groundbreakers) Developments Inc. has created 18 townhomes for local families (with 72 more apartments coming) and others who were looking to move locally and build their lives in the valley in a new housing community called Hibou’s Knoll in Kentville, NS.

The COG way is groundbreaking not only in the literal sense, but also in the way that we want to think outside the box in order to create new housing that corresponds to peoples needs and to the ever changing housing landscape, which for many is in a time of crisis. 

COG’s mission is also to be groundbreaking in how it interacts with its employees, partners, residents, clients, suppliers, professionals and our community as a whole. COG wishes to give back, empower, teach and support people who want to be part of the solution for themselves and for others.

Since its inception, COG has partnered with an emerging excavation company, C. Little Earthworx Inc. We’ve launched a new subdivision, are actively exploring partnerships with other construction-related businesses, and have assembled a 12-member construction crew. Additionally, we’ve acquired and refurbished an 18,000 sq. ft. headquarters at 1299 Ridge Rd, Wolfville Ridge, NS. We’ve also purchased land earmarked for future projects and continue to innovate with numerous upcoming ideas.
